What is your role at J Finance?

I am a Mortgage, Protection and Equity Release Adviser at J Finance, as well as the company's Compliance Adviser. That means I work directly with clients while also helping to ensure the business continues to meet its regulatory responsibilities.

How long have you worked at J Finance?

I set the business up in 2002. Rowan Frayling took over as Managing Director in 2023, but I continue to advise clients and remain actively involved in the business.

Why should someone listen to your advice?

I have been a financial adviser for over thirty years and have advised thousands of clients throughout my career. You might think that after that long you have seen every possible situation, but the truth is that everyone is different, and I still need to understand each client individually to give advice that is genuinely tailored to them. I am committed to continuing my professional development and regularly attend training seminars and conferences to make sure my knowledge stays current.

What do you like best about working at J Finance?

I love the variety. I enjoy working with clients and helping them achieve their goals, and I am fortunate to work alongside a hardworking and genuinely loyal team. I also have a bit of a passion for numbers, which probably sounds strange, but it is true. One of the things I find most rewarding is catching up with clients I helped years ago and hearing how their lives, families, and careers have developed since.

Describe your typical day.

No two days are the same, which is one of the things that keeps the job interesting. I try to plan ahead and work through emails first thing, then I might have meetings with clients or others in the industry. Client meetings range from first conversations with new clients to reviews with existing clients who want to change their arrangements, or simply to check they are still on the right track.

What makes you happy?

My wife and family above all else. Spending time with our three children and their partners is always time well spent. And travelling, which comes up in most conversations I have about life outside work.

What do you like to do at the weekend?

I love getting out on my mountain bike or taking our dogs for a walk in the Chiltern countryside where we live. Travelling is a genuine passion too, and not just for the places. Some of the best moments of my life have come from chance conversations with people over a glass of local wine somewhere unexpected.

Where was your last holiday?

My last major trip was canoeing and wild camping in Canada, and before that we walked in the mountains of central Iceland. Both were truly amazing experiences and we met fascinating people from all over the world. Our next trip will definitely be somewhere warmer.
