Supporting Young People & Children First

J Finance is delighted to have adopted as its Charity of the Year Young People & Children First (YPACF).

YPACF houses and supports young people who are leaving care or are homeless. They currently have two four-bedroomed houses in West Berkshire, which accommodate young people aged 16-25, and they are in the process of looking for a third house so that they can extend their services to support even more young people in need.

The charity is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, though sadly most of their planned celebrations have had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis. Nevertheless, their virtual ’10 in 10’ anniversary fundraising campaign, which saw 18 fundraising teams aiming to complete 10 activities over 10 days, was a huge success. They exceeded their £10,000 target by some distance, raising £17,055, including Gift Aid. This is a fantastic achievement at a time when so many are struggling financially, and a much-needed boost for the charity which is a non-government commissioned service and relies on the generosity of its supporters.

YPACF provides vital support to young people who have typically experienced challenging childhoods. It offers a stable home with personalised support as they navigate the road to independent adulthood. Its staff are dedicated to building caring and nurturing relationships with their young residents, and help them develop essential life skills like cooking and money management.

Given the alarming statistic that 26% of care leavers go on to experience homelessness, the emotional support and practical help on getting into education or work that the team provide really makes a huge difference to these young people. They do an amazing job and we’re thrilled to be contributing in our small way to give them the support they need and deserve.
